A Tiger at Midnight by Swati Teerdhala is the first book in a fantasy trilogy , based on Ancient Indian History and Hindu Mythology.
The book has a magical way to it, that held my interest throughout. The main characters Esha and Kunal however, did not seem to live up to the expectations I had.

Esha’s role as a Viper was well written, but Kunal’s character was unconvincing. Kunal is on a mission to find and imprison Esha and though he is portrayed as a very capable soldier, he somehow let’s Esha escape over and over and over again. His aspirations to become an artist popped out of nowhere too. It was more a love story, and I did enjoy their little game of hide and seek . I found the storyline predictable, with the possibility of Kunal being a Samyad Royal hinted early on in the book. The revelation that they were childhood friends was something I couldn’t take🙈🙈.

I may still pick up the next book of the series, to find out how Esha and Kunal end up. I could never let go of an unfinished story.
