A dark, creepy, hope-it-never-comes-true kind of story. This thriller gave me goosebumps over and over again with its vile content, but I couldn’t stop reading it because of the magnetic brilliance of the plot.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

SYNOPSIS (from Goodreads)->

Twenty years ago Claire Scott’s eldest sister, Julia, went missing. No one knew where she went – no note, no body. It was a mystery that was never solved and it tore her family apart. Now another girl has disappeared, with chilling echoes of the past. And it seems that she might not be the only one. Claire is convinced Julia’s disappearance is linked. But when she begins to learn the truth about her sister, she is confronted with a shocking discovery, and nothing will ever be the same…

REVIEW->

The Plot ->

The synopsis does no justice to the shocking revelations and trajectories this book takes. We hear the story from multiple points of views and it’s a while before the reader can connect those characters and see a plot emerge. With Julia missing for 20 years you would think the story would revolve around her. And that’s where the Author brings in an unexpected angle and shrouds the story with more mystery and shattering discoveries. It starts off like a story about different people but ties in together neatly.

The Characters->

I can strongly say I love all the characters in this book – except the antagonist – I hate him with the same fervor. The sisters, the father and mother have wonderful character portrayals and growth as the narrative progresses. A story essentially about missing girls, also focuses on the delicate but strong bond of sisterhood. Forgiving others starts with forgiving yourself and who better to help you than a sister – a person who is always there despite all odds. The antagonist has a strong presence too. He is a villain hard to forget. Claire’s growth is the most significant. She is one person at the beginning of the book and a completely transformed Woman by the end.

Audiobook Narration->

The audiobook delivery is amazing. The clear transition between chapters and the different narrators help the reader switch context quickly and keep up with the story. Loved the emotions in the deliveries too.

The Writing ->

The book is Loooong – the audiobook is 17 hours. And despite that I wasn’t ever bored and neither were there any insignificant events. Everything in the book mattered! All the chapters! And that is excellent writing in my opinion. The plot twists are never ending and you can never be sure that everything has been solved. In this book, there is always another horrifying revelation a few chapters away.

Mysterious and emotionally packed, this book has many elements that have amalgamated wonderfully to create a masterpiece. A Dark hole of a book with a beautiful story of sisterhood. A book to read if you were strong enough for it. I do urge you to consider the trigger warnings seriously.
