“Life is generally a pursuit of desires. We want & want & want. We hunger”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Synopsis->

In her phenomenally popular essays and long-running Tumblr blog, Roxane Gay has written with intimacy and sensitivity about food and body, using her own emotional and psychological struggles as a means of exploring our shared anxieties over pleasure, consumption, appearance, and health. As a woman who describes her own body as “wildly undisciplined,” Roxane understands the tension between desire and denial, between self-comfort and self-care. In Hunger, she explores her past—including the devastating act of violence that acted as a turning point in her young life—and brings readers along on her journey to understand and ultimately save herself.

With the bracing candor, vulnerability, and power that have made her one of the most admired writers of her generation, Roxane explores what it means to learn to take care of yourself: how to feed your hungers for delicious and satisfying food, a smaller and safer body, and a body that can love and be loved—in a time when the bigger you are, the smaller your world becomes.

Review->

Roxane Gay’s memoir Hunger is a thought- provoking and raw piece.
She described Hunger as being “by far the hardest book I’ve ever had to write” . Reading this book will tell you it is the hardest book anyone has ever had to write !!
.
Roxane openly talks about how she handles body shaming. She was raped at a young age and she ate & ate in an attempt to hide herself and repress her emotional issues.  This book is not meant to be an explanation or a teacher , but simply Roxane’s version of her life as it is. She reaffirms and lives up to how your worth is not tied to your body.
.
It takes immense courage to put oneself out there for the world to see like this. Exposed and open for others to know. The incidents Roxane has chosen to put in this book show both the good and bad in the world. There are people around us who truly support and motivate us. There are people who shame and attempt to bring us down. There are also people who believe they are trying to help us , but end up demoralizing us. Finding and Keeping the right company can greatly affect the quality of one’s life.
.
This book has made me think a lot . It forces one to re-evaluate oneself and ponder about how quick we are to judge others without any knowledge of what they are really going through.
