I am a huge fan of Sophie Kinsella & turn to her books when I need a break from all the serious life stuff. ‘I owe you one’ is Kinsella’s latest book released last year & of course I put a hold on it in my library as soon as it was available. This was in a lot of demand & I got it after a long long long wait !! But , the wait was so worth it 🤗 ! . Fixie is obsessed with fixing everything (as you can tell from her nickname). She takes it on herself to keep the family business running, while dealing with her not-so-responsible siblings. A chance encounter with a stranger , Seb, in a coffee shop starts a string of IOUs that could possibly change Fixie’s life. But then enters her brother’s friend Ryan, who Fixie has crushed on since forever. This is a romantic family drama that traces Fixie’s journey of fixing her own life. . Most of Kinsella’s books are romantic & so I kept waiting for the romantic plot to occupy the center stage of the narrative. However Fixie’s relation with Ryan and Seb is not actually the main focus of the book. The story is about how Fixie empowers herself, how she learns to value herself & stands up to her patronizing and selfish family members. . Despite being a heavy story line tracing Fixie’s journey to breaking barriers and standing up for herself, Kinsella has managed to write yet another light hearted funny read. This book gave me all the feels & happiness I was looking for & more too !! . I did learn something from this book I want to share. When we like someone, be it family, partner or friend, we tend to make excuses for their misbehavior & justify them. This is because we can’t bear to see them in a bad light & want to believe they can be better. Awareness is the first step to change & so knowing & being aware of this pattern can help us from fooling ourselves & keeping relations real and healthy
