Where’d you go Bernadette is a cute story focusing on a Mother Daughter relationship. The hype around the book probably resulted in me going in with higher expectations, but this was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 for me. This book has been adapted as a movie too !

Synopsis->

Bernadette Fox has vanished.
When her daughter Bee claims a family trip to Antarctica as a reward for perfect grades, Bernadette, a fiercely intelligent shut-in, throws herself into preparations for the trip. But worn down by years of trying to live the Seattle life she never wanted, Ms. Fox is on the brink of a meltdown. And after a school fundraiser goes disastrously awry at her hands, she disappears, leaving her family to pick up the pieces–which is exactly what Bee does, weaving together an elaborate web of emails, invoices, and school memos that reveals a secret past Bernadette has been hiding for decades. Where’d You Go Bernadette is an ingenious and unabashedly entertaining novel about a family coming to terms with who they are and the power of a daughter’s love for her mother.

Review->
The book is written in a unique way and this is what makes the book stand out. The whole story is compiled together using receipts and emails from the several characters involved and there is no real narration. This kept the book interesting for me .

Though the storyline of the book is good, it is rather unbelievable. Bernadette is an accomplished designer who loses her morale after a fateful incident and resigns to an isolated existence in Seattle with her Daughter and Husband. The portrayal of Bernadette to be so negative and still raise her daughter Bee, and for her husband to not intervene is an unbelievable setting. The family wants to take a trip to Antarctica and Bernadette goes missing before the trip . The events that unravel after this, shows how deeply Bee believes in her Mom and the love Bee has for her.  I also expected Bernadette to be absent for a larger part of the book, but she was actually only missing for a small part in the narration. The climax of the book is very imaginary and dreamy too. I came out of the story with a lot of questions and unconnected dots and that is not a feeling I like when I finish a book.
