Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner isn’t just a novel, it is a journey ! It spans over more than 50 years of the lives of sisters Jo & Bethie.
.
This is a wonderful novel based on the bond of Sisterhood. Jo is a Lesbian & struggles to find her place in the world. Bethie is molested and then later raped and wrestles internally to deal with it. The narrative flawlessly transitions the personality of the characters through childhood, teen years and finally into adulthood.
.
The book is more of an experience, touching on topics of LGBT rights evolvement, rape, racism & drugs. It shows how a normal life requires sacrifices and compromises at every turn . My favorite part is how throughout their lives, Jo & Bethie keep drifting away, but inevitably always find their way back to each other .
.
“She wished she had spent more time teaching her girls that women should forgive themselves, showing them how to take care of themselves with kindness. The world was hard enough, would beat them up enough without them adding to the pain”
.
The extensive details in the book reflect the time & effort Jennifer has put into this book. To write a novel that spans generations of powerful women and deliver a strong memorable story is amazing. Weiner truly has a knack for writing a captivating and tear-jerking piece.
.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 – the book is an extremely heavy read though.
