⭐️Humble,Herculean,Harrowing⭐️ . American dreamer is a memoir on Tim Tran’s journey of escaping communist Vietnam. I did not know anything about the Author or Vietnam’s history when I started this book & I think I am definitely a little wiser after having read everything this book has to offer. . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 . SYNOPSIS-> American Dreamer is an inspirational, first-hand account of the motivating power of an immigrant’s dream for a better life. From the rural Vietnam of Tim Tran’s childhood to his eventual escape to America and his rise as CFO of a multi-billion-dollar company, Tran’s memoir is a lesson in perseverance and ingenuity. . REVIEW-> This book is a reminder of how many things I am unaware of & how much more I have to learn. I have heard of the Vietnam war, but to read about the atrocities and war crimes from the POV of someone who has experienced it firsthand, is a different ballgame. . After several attempts, when Tim finally left Vietnam, he was a refugee in Malaysia. His description of life as a refugee is so saddening to read. Written in simple, non-flowery language, the book hits hard and is a wake up call. To know we still have war & refugees living under such conditions is heartbreaking. He also talks about the tragic life of children in refugee camps. . Despite all the hardships & extreme struggles, Tim comes across as a humble and grateful person – how someone can be so, after having been dealt such unfortunate cards & experienced so much trauma is something that amazed me all the while I was reading this book. . I liked how the book gives importance to highlighting the differences between Vietnam and US – education, culture and lifestyle – to prove why Tim sought the US as his Savior nation & feels so grateful towards it. I learned much about war & Vietnam from this book and do recommend reading this to expand your horizons too!
