The Sweeney Sisters by Lian Dolan is a domestic fiction & this book felt like a much needed warm hug!! . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 . Liza, Maggie & Tricia are struggling to cope with the death of their father,William Sweeney – an acclaimed Author. After his wake, they learn 2 things. 1.He has another daughter from an illegitimate affair. 2.He was working on his memoir before he died – one that is now hidden away. The 4 Sisters try to accept their new reality, while racing to find the memoir that could expose family secrets. . This book is calming and thoughtful. The Narrative has taken its time to build up the characters and & their slow change in attitude as they come to terms with their situation. Sisterhood is a strong bond and this book tells the stories of several beautiful and flawed sister relations out there. It was heartwarming to read how the Sisters knew each other’s strengths and weaknesses, how they exploited and uplifted each other, and always had each other‘s back. With Serena trying to find her place among the sisters, they all have different reactions to the revelation, processing the shock in their own unique quirky ways. . It was funny & sad that the Sisters were so bent on keeping their family secrets under the wraps. I liked Liza the most, she had to make the most painful choices to live up to her family‘s expectations, but held it together gracefully all the time. The words in this book spoke to me and I really really like this one. . To quote a line from the book, this book is “literary genius, family secrets and broken hearts” .
