⭐️ Daring, Dazzling, Dramatic⭐️

Mahabaratha is an ancient Indian epic & this book is a retelling of the story from the lead Woman – Panchaali’s, point of view. An enchanting and bold take on the saga.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

SYNOPSIS->
Married to 5 royal husbands who have been cheated out of their father’s kingdom, Panchaali aids their quest to reclaim their birthright, remaining at their side through years of exile & a terrible civil war. But she cannot deny her complicated friendship with the enigmatic Krishna—or her secret attraction to the mysterious man who is her husbands’ most dangerous enemy—as she is caught up in the ever-manipulating hands of fate.

REVIEW->
I have tried to read the Mahabaratha several times before & have never been able to complete it. It just gets overwhelming for me. This version was easy to read, being told like a fiction & the backstory of most of the main characters like Bheeshma, Pandu & Kunti are covered. The Author has not analyzed all the characters, but has taken total liberty with imagining Panchaali’s thoughts, desires, anger, hopes & anguish. It is invigorating to imagine that a woman born centuries ago, experienced the same need for control over her life as many women today do. This version of Panchali is unapologetic, inspiring & definitely imperfect.

The writing in the book is almost poetic. Chitra’s language & description is exquisite. I was annotating so much of the book & will definitely re-read this book in the future.

I buddy read & discussed this book with a few amazing bookstagram friends. An interesting point we realized- many lessons are passed down for Women, based on Panchaali’s story & it is high time a lot of these are reinvented, because Mahabarath was written from a man’s POV & you don’t know the other side.
