I waited to post my review for this book at the end of 2019 , because I wanted to be absolutely certain when I claim this to be my best read of 2019. The Silent Patient is the Author’s debut novel and is a master piece !

Alicia Berenson is a famous painter with a perfect life, who shoots her husband 5 times in the face one night & never speaks another word again. Her silence shrouds her case with mystery & She is sent to a secure institution in North London. Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who is determined to get Alicia to talk & solve the mystery of her case . The journey however reveals truths about Theo’s life that could be disastrous for him.

The narration of this book is absolutely brilliant . The story unfolds from Theo’s perspective & there are snippets from Alicia’s journal entries that give us a peek into her version of the events too. Alicia is silent throughout the novel and yet her story comes out from different sources. The Author’s creativity in putting this whole storyline together is amazing.

This is a smart psychological thriller that keeps the reader on the edge, constantly second guessing the motivations of all the characters involved. The last few chapters of the book were truly gripping & piecing the plot together at the end was exhilarating . I listened to the audio book for this one, and loved it so much, that I went ahead and got the physical copy from the library and reread some key chapters.
